Imagine asking your phone, "When is my dentist appointment?" A typical assistant might pull up your calendar entry and search the web for dentist-appointment tips, then dump both results on screen with overlapping information cluttering everything up.

Samsung's patent describes a smarter split. The phone first searches its own apps (calendar, contacts, messages, files) for anything matching your question. It sends both that local result and your original question to an online server. The server searches the web, but before showing you anything, the system automatically removes whatever the phone already found, so you don't see the same information twice.

You end up with two clean answers displayed side by side: one from your device, one from the internet, with no overlap. It's a small but genuinely useful fix for a frustration that anyone who uses a phone assistant has probably felt.

How the phone and server results get deduplicated

The patent describes a two-track search pipeline that runs on a Samsung device and a remote server simultaneously.

On-device track: The device extracts keywords from your spoken or typed query and runs a local search across installed apps. That result is called the device search result.

Server track: The device sends both your original query and the device search result to a remote server. The server performs a broader internet-based search and returns what the patent calls the server search result.

Deduplication step: Before displaying anything, the system compares the two result sets and strips any information from the server result that already appears in the device result. What's left becomes the first answer. The device result itself becomes the second answer.

Both answers are then shown on screen at the same time, giving users a clean local result and a non-redundant web result without overlap. Sending the device result to the server up front is the key design choice: the server can tailor its response knowing what the phone already has, rather than the device filtering blindly after the fact.

What this means for Galaxy AI and Bixby's future

For anyone using Bixby or Samsung's Galaxy AI features, this is a direct quality-of-life improvement. Right now, asking a voice assistant something that touches both personal data and general knowledge often produces cluttered, repetitive answers. A cleaner split between "what your phone knows" and "what the internet knows" would make assistant responses feel faster to read and more trustworthy.
